M5
The
next-generation M5 is based on the new 5-series sedan that was
released in late 2004. It will cost about $90,000 ($20,000
more than the previous M5, believe it or not).
Company officials say the new M5, which is
slated to go on sale in September 2005, will be the fastest
M-series car ever produced by BMW's Motorsports
performance car unit. An M edition of the 5-series wagon is also
under consideration.
The M5's under-hood hardware is impressive:
A normally aspirated 5.5-liter, V-10 engine that is said to
deliver 507 horsepower and provide the car with the
ability to dash from 0 to 60 in less than 4.5 seconds. Top speed
will be electronically limited to around 155 miles per hour.
